Reviews of Ethos Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program

I had a great experience taking the MBSR class. The class discussions were insightful, making us realize how similar we all are in how we have to deal with life challenges. The recommended daily practice was clearly explained and the readings very helpful – great material to keep revisiting as needed. Asha is a wonderful teacher, so kind and patient. I have also enjoyed the retreat, which brought lots of peace and calmness. This class made me realize that it is only the beginning of a mindfulness practice, which takes continuous practice and personal discovery. I warmly recommend this class to anybody who is curious about this practice and wants to start a personal exploration journey.

MBSR has been extremely helpful to me. During the NYC Marathon my MBSR practice assisted me in running 8 minutes faster in 2021 vs. 2019. This is in spite of the fact that I had a foot injury through the summer and was not able to complete my intended training plan. By doing a full day “sit” on the Saturday before the marathon, I felt that my mind was calm and completely focused.

My wife and I were recently blessed with triplets. One of them had significant breathing challenges and it was quite a stressful and nerve wracking time for the family. The only thing helped was holding my son skin-to-skin. I used this time to clear my mind by applying all I had learned in mindfulness awareness training while focusing on helping him. I’m pleased to report that he is now doing well.

When I first started my Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) class, I expected to find new ways to improve my meditation practices and to better manage my Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. I discovered many new practices and techniques in the class. What I didn’t expect is how MBSR opened my eyes to look at the world mindfully, by being kind to yourself first and foremost, accepting the stressors instead of avoiding them, and leaving all irrelevant “mind-full” worries behind. The course has helped me realize how my body reacts during stressful events, which I was unaware of. It has helped me calm down and bought my stress level down to a considerable level. I have started implemented “STOP” during heated arguments to help me make more rational decisions, which I wouldn't have made otherwise.

Also short poems and writings in the handouts were amazing, like the zen one that talks about being neutral to good and bad situations,  and the positive sayings bring positivity in my attitude too.

★★★★★ “I found Dr. Ron Weiss to be a skilled listener while asking excellent questions pertaining to a patient’s lifestyle, particularly associated with typical daily food and beverage consumption, exercise, work/life balance, and use of prescription and OTC medicine. In my case, I made changes to eliminate all animal products (meat, fish, dairy, eggs) from my diet, including use of caffeine or added salt, fat or sugar. I was able to lose approximately 40 pounds in less than 50-days following a whole-plant based nourishment program under doctor supervision which included baseline and post-weight loss bloodwork sampling and analysis. My cholesterol and blood sugar improved significantly such that I currently do not take any medications and I’m no longer pre-diabetic. I feel much better being at the lower weight and eliminating processed food and high fat, sugar and salt from my daily food intake. I have more energy and feel more alert than I’ve been in years.

I continue to make eating cruciferous leafy greens and blueberries main staples of my daily eating regime.
